Early Life & Education
Itishree Murmu came into this world proficient in languages, born in an Adivasi family from Rairangpur, Odisha. From her budding years, she was motivated by her mother Droupadi Murmu, a teacher turned politician.
She recognised the need of having a bank account, and thus planned her career with the intention of entering the banking world. Her later education was with the Suryadatta Institute of Management and Mass Communication (SIMMC) in Pune.

Family & Personal Life
Itishree has seen both extreme happiness and deep sorrow in her personal life. She married Ganesh Chandra Hembram on March 6th, 2015, and has a daughter with him. Still, as a family, they have faced some tragic deaths over the years.
During the years of the family tragedy, she lost her father, Shyam Charan Murmu, who worked as a bank officer; he died on August 1st, 2014 after suffering from a prolonged illness. She also lost her brother, Laxman, in 2009 under mysterious circumstances, and her other brother, Sipun Murmu, died in a road accident on January 2nd, 2013.
Nevertheless, these distressing realities have only made Itishree stronger as she continues to professionally balance her life while helping her mother politically.
Career as a Banker
Itishree Murmu is currently a banker at UCO Bank in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. She is very private and does not engage in politics or media which allows her to be focused solely on her job in the financial sector. She is committed to her work and is advancing in her career.
Connection to Droupadi Murmu’s Presidential Journey
In June 2022, her mother, Droupadi Murmu, was chosen as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Presidential election. Itishree remembered the historic day Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Droupadi Murmu personally to tell her about the nomination.
In an interview, Itishree shared,
“We got a call from Prime Minister Modi. Whatever he said, my mother fell silent after that. There were tears in her eyes, and she could not say anything. After a while, I could just say thank you and that too with great difficulty.”
This was a remarkable moment in their life, because later on, Droupadi Murmu became the first tribal woman to be elected as the President of India.
